Adam the Actor by Lachlan Jordan

Carpenter by trade, but studying Screen and Filming acting, this face is one to watch out for. Adam approached me in doing some photo shoots to show casting directors a range of looks to assist him in getting some acting roles.

Here are a few images from two photo shoots we did last year. I'm looking forward to working with him again soon. Follow his progress via Instagram at adam__jh

2017 Retrospective by Lachlan Jordan

hiking in New Zealand

Well it's that time of year again, the time when it's almost over and I sit back and reflect on the year that was. Looking back on these photographs I once again feel grateful to be able to say I've had an eventful year.

This year I travelled to new destinations and explored new places. I photographed moments for people that will be forever shared with friends and family. I am really excited about where my photography went this year and am looking forward what opportunities may come my way in 2018.

I want to thank everyone who made 2017 great and everyone who continues to follow my work and recommend me to friends and family. You are all amazing and I am very thankful.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you enjoy this post looking back on my photography for the year of 2017.

Bec & Luke at Susan Gilmore Beach by Lachlan Jordan

Lachlan Jordan Photography-7168.jpg

On Sunday I photographed this lovely couple. He likes to surf and they both love living on the coast so I thought sunset around Bar Beach would make a great location. It was low tide, so we wandered from Bar Beach to Susan Gilmore Beach and I captured some great moments between these two ocean loving love birds.

Road Trip by Lachlan Jordan

If you follow my social media accounts on either Facebook or Instagram you will know I recently went on a 10 day road trip with my wife Naomi. We had been invited to attend a Wedding in Brisbane and decided to take some extra time and drive rather than fly. Shooting straight up to Brisbane for the Wedding weekend we planned on making our way back south to Newcastle over the week. Except we didn't plan for that week. We knew of places we wanted to see but had no official schedule for them.

The weather was not great for us. It either rained, was windy as hell, or both. Some of the places / things we wanted to do we didn't get to. (I guess I'll just camp and explore Lamington National Park another time). But still we did make the most of it, and the miserable weather did make for some dramatic photos. We did manage to get sunshine in Byron for 2 days and I even got a little sunburnt.

In the end our little road trip took us to; Brisbane, Surfers Paradise, Byron Bay and Crescent Head before heading home. We went to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, stopped in at Mullumbimby and explored the beautiful gardens at Crystal Castle on the way to Byron Bay. Whilst staying in Byron Bay we went to the Lighthouse for sunrise and walked all the way to the end of Cape Byron. We swam in Killen Falls then went to the Whites Beach, which could be mistaken for paradise.

Our last day in Byron Bay we went to Minyon Falls, a waterfall in Nightcap National Park that descends 100 meters into a beautiful natural pool. Getting to the base of the falls is a 4.5km walk which takes you through beautiful lush rainforest of moss covered rocks and giant trees with roots as big as my leg! From Minyon Falls we drove to Crescent Head where we visited Naomi's parents and had a day of relaxing before heading back home.

Wedding Album Investment by Lachlan Jordan

I love print. In this digital age where we seem to store all our images on hard drives or online I feel like the printed image is all the more special. There's nothing like having something tangible which can be held, touched and passed on.

I cannot recommend getting yourself a Wedding Album for your Wedding enough. All albums are custom designed, and unique to each couple.

Beautifully presented, the lay flat Wedding Album is a great way to relive, and share with others your special day.

Sam + Mikey Newcastle Wedding by Lachlan Jordan

Lachlan Jordan Photography-4653.jpg

If you saw the engagement shoot for these two you will know they have been together for 9 years! Virtually High School sweethearts (Mikey having just finished High School and Sam being in year 12) both are now Registered Nurses and studied together at The University of Newcastle.

They said 'I do' at The Newcastle Club in front of close friends and family and later had their reception at FogHorn Brewhouse in Newcastle. I love the contrast of the old world look of The Newcastle Club against the industrial look of FogHorn. FogHorn being Sam and Mikey's number one choice of venue due to their love of Beer.

I had such a blast photographing their Wedding! A day with lots of love and laughter, amazing venues and lovely people who made me feel like more than just the event photographer, but part of the celebration.

Virtually High School sweethearts (Mikey having just finished High School and Sam being in year 12) Sam and Mikey have been together for 9 years! Both are now Registered Nurses and studied together at The University of Newcastle.

Having busy schedules as Registered Nurses made it difficult to organise a date for an engagement / pre-wedding shoot but we managed to lock one in on Wednesday and I am so happy with the results! I had so much fun hanging out and photographing these two love birds and am so excited for their Wedding next week!

New Zealand trip. by Lachlan Jordan

It's hard to believe that this trip away was already a month ago. If you know me, or follow my social media I haven't exactly shut up about my trip to New Zealand. I had such an amazing time in the seven days I was there and it didn't take me long to fall in love with the beautiful scenery which is literally everywhere!

I met my sister Rhiannan (who is in some of the photos) in Queenstown a week after she got to New Zealand. She was part of a wedding party in Wanaka but didn't want to come home straight after the wedding. None of her friends were available to travel with her at the time and I jumped at the chance when she asked if I wanted to go.

We were based in Queenstown on the south island. Whilst there we did the Shotover Jet Boat  (highly recommend) enjoyed chilled drinks at Bellow Zero Ice Bar where the glasses are actually made of ice, went up the gondola to skyline where we enjoyed a buffet lunch with a beautiful view and rode on the Luge (which was so much fun!) Of course we had a Fergburger (or two) but have to say, in my opinion, that Devil Burger was better.

The absolute highlight for me was the Ben Lomond track. A hike that took us 5 hours from the gondola and back to reach a summit which offers amazing 360 degree views on a peak at 1,748 m. A backpack with four water bottles and pre-packed sandwiches and snacks got us there and back. For me this was the best part of the trip because it was an experience and an accomplishment I wont soon forget. Getting to the end is well worth the journey, put it on your bucket list.

The last two days of our trip we hired a car. The first day with the car we travelled to Milford Sound. Three and a half hour drive from Queenstown (allow for 4-5 hours because the drive is so pretty) you can get a cruise which takes you through the fiord that is Milford Sound, and highlights some amazing waterfalls as well as the geological history of the area.

On our last full day in New Zealand we drove to Wanaka, going to Puzzling World, exploring and of course getting a photo of that Wanaka Tree. From there we travelled to Arrow Town, stopping at the Cardrona Hotel and various lookouts on the way.

It was a jam packed 7 days and I had such a great time! I can not wait to go back and explore more of the South Island as well as the North, as one week just wasn't enough time in such a beautiful place.

Daena + Jess' Hunter Valley Wedding by Lachlan Jordan

I'm not going to waste time here on the politics of Gay Marriage in Australia, because it will turn into a rant and I would rather focus on the positives in this blog post. Let me just say I think love is love and everyone should have the right to marry whoever they want.

Everything about Daena and Jess' special day was the same as any other wedding, apart from the legal documentation. It was two families coming together to celebrate the love of two human beings. It was an emotional day full of love, smiles, laughter and tears of joy.

Daena and Jess declared their love in front of friends and family reading vows they had both prepared themselves. You could see the happiness and feel the love these two share for each other.

Jeramae + Stacy's Newcastle Wedding by Lachlan Jordan

Jeremae and Stacy had a an intimate wedding at Noahs on the Beach in Newcastle with only a guest list of 25. I had so much fun documenting their Wedding Day filled with romantic and intimate moments evenly matched with fun and spontaneously silly moments. Lots of smiles, and lots of laughs made my job even easier capturing this couple and their family celebrate such a joyous occasion.

2016: Retrospective by Lachlan Jordan

Merewether Baths Sunrise Australia Day

As I write this 2016 will be over in 30 hours and 30 minutes. What better time to look back and reflect on the year that was. As I scroll through the 100+ photos in this blog post I can't help but think "wow" I have been fortunate in capturing some spectacular moments.

Sunrises, sunsets, dark skies and moody weather. Not only that, but this year I put myself out there to start my career in photographing people, creating memories and capturing moments which can then be kept forever and shared with loved ones.

I already have some big plans for 2017 which so far includes Three Weddings and a trip to New Zealand. Hopefully more Weddings and trips will be added to the calendar throughout the year. In any case I am very excited about the year ahead and I want to thank everyone who made 2016 great and everyone who continues to follow my work and recommend me to friends and family. You are all amazing and I am very thankful.

Happy New Year everyone, and I hope you enjoy this post looking back on my photography for the year of 2016.

Sibling photo shoot with Renae + Jackson by Lachlan Jordan

Renae and I are friends through work, and have known each other for a few years now. She approached me about getting some photos done with her brother as a Christmas present for her mum. I thought this was an awesome idea and had a lot of fun photographing Jackson and Renae at King Edward Park. Here are a few pics from their session.

Kelly Family Photos by Lachlan Jordan

This photo session was a Christmas gift from one mother to another. I was contacted by Narelle who told me her friends daughter was about to leave the country on a gap year, (which has the potential to be a 2 year trip away from home) and as a nice Christmas Gift wanted to give her friend a family photo session before the daughter left the country. What a fantastic present!

After some email exchanges with Anne-marie who was the recipient of the gift we organised a date and time in which all members of the family were free. As it would turn out, sunrise on Saturday the 10th was a winner (just one day before the daughter was to board the plane for her gap year).

And what a winning sunrise it was! Storm clouds, but with the right amount of sunlight gave us an amazing sky down at Bar Beach, and great morning light to work with. Here is a selection of the photos from the morning. Looking forward to taking more family photos in the future!

Mark + Talarni's Port Stephens Wedding by Lachlan Jordan

I was nervous for this outdoor wedding all week when the weather app told me it was to rain on the Saturday. I came prepared and brought umbrellas with me just in case. Fortunately the day of the Wedding the app predicted that the sun would push through at around 11am and that's exactly what happened, giving Mark and Talarni some beautiful weather for their Wedding Day.

For them this was a destination wedding. The Port Stephens area is a holiday favourite of theirs and they love it so much that that's where they decided to get married. The Ceremony took place at Carol Rotary Park in Nelsons Bay with a backdrop of the ocean behind them. The reception was held in a marquee at Pinetrees Port Stephens which the couple had booked for the week with their family.

Everyone at the wedding was so relaxed and very friendly down to earth people. I felt so incredibly welcomed by everyone and am so happy I was invited to capture this special day.
